Certificates

Certificates are available upon request. Ask about documents for the items named, in the enquiry, so the answer can be tied to those items.

The general wording used on this site

This site uses one general wording for documents: certificates are available upon request. That wording appears on this page, on the homepage summary block, and in the template paragraph at the foot of every page. It is the only document wording used on this site. No page on this site names a particular certificate, and no page states that any particular line carries any particular document.

The general wording is not a substitute for asking. A buyer who needs a document for an order should ask about it in the enquiry, naming the items it concerns, so that the supplier can answer for those items. A buyer who asks only in general terms, without naming items, will receive only a general answer, and a general answer cannot be checked against an order. The enquiry pages therefore ask for documents to be raised together with quantity terms, timing, trade terms and payment method, for the same items, in the same message.

How to ask about a document

A document question works best when it names the line, the application and the quantities, then asks what documents are available for those items and what the supplier needs from the buyer before a document can be issued or shared. Where a destination exists, the question should name the destination, because document needs can differ by destination. Where a date exists by which a document is needed, the question should state that date, so that timing for the document can be answered together with timing for the items.

Where more than one line is enquired about, the document question should be separated by line, with the items under each line named separately, rather than asked once for the whole enquiry. A line-by-line document question allows a line-by-line answer, and allows the buyer to check each answer against the line it concerns. The buying checklist page collects document questions alongside quantity, timing and terms questions, in the same order, so that nothing central is left to a second message.

What this page does not state

This page does not state that any line carries any document, and it does not state that any document covers any application. It does not name a management system as a certificate held for any line, and it does not reproduce any certificate image or wording from any certificate image, because no certificate image is published on this site. Two images found during preparation were set aside and are not used anywhere on this site, and no wording from either of them is reproduced here or on any other page.

A buyer who needs certainty about a document should treat the enquiry as the place where certainty is obtained, not this page. The enquiry should name the items, the destination and the date by which the document is needed, and should ask for the answer in writing, tied to those items. That is the only route this site offers for document certainty, and it is the route the enquiry pages are written to support.

Documents by destination and date

A document answer can depend on where the items are going and when they are needed. An enquiry that names the destination allows the supplier to say whether a document differs by destination, and an enquiry that names the date by which the document is needed allows timing for the document to be answered together with timing for the items. Where the destination is not yet fixed, the enquiry should say so plainly, and ask what documents are available for the items regardless of destination, so that the answer does not silently assume a destination the buyer did not name.

A buyer who needs documents for several lines should separate the document question by line, as the earlier sections advise, and should also separate it by destination where destinations differ by line. A mixed enquiry that asks one document question for several lines going to several destinations will receive an answer that is hard to check line by line. The checklist page keeps document questions next to quantity, timing and terms questions for the same items, so that a document answer can be read against the order it belongs to rather than against the enquiry as a whole.
